Sinj is a town situated in Dalmatian Hinterland, inland region of Croatia, around 40 kilometres away from Split. It is a centre of the Cetinska Krajina region and all of the small surrounding places gravitate towards it, which is the reason why Sinj has got all the facilities a town can offer for a comfortable life. The town itself counts around 11 500 inhabitants, while including other surrounding places the number rises up to cca. 25 000 inhabitants. In front of Sinj there lies a fertile field surrounded on the eastern and northern sides by crystal clear river Cetina, which offers a possibility to engage in rafting to those eager for adventure. The town is almost completely surrounded by mountains rising majestically from the field, and providing a perfect opportunity to enjoy a nice walk, hiking or a simple refuge from the city rush in the midst of almost untouched nature. Over Sinj stands the hill Kamičak, which serves as a pedestal for a little church and the statue of Our Maddona of Sinj, the protector of the town, that, according to the belief, defended the town from the invasion of the Turks back in 1715. The inhabitants of Sinj celebrate that glorious victory even nowadays in form of a traditional equestrian competition called „Alka“, which is held every year at the beginning of August and which has recently been inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. Alka is a real spectakle not only for the domestic people, but for the tourists as well. During those festive days, you can see traditional, lavishly decorated national costumes, hear popular reveilles that raise the competitive spirit, or try some of the traditional specialties such as arambašići or uštipci. For the adventurous ones, Sinj offers a wide range of activities, such as horse riding, hiking, cycling, paragliding, skydiving, hunting, etc. On the other hand, for those who like to spend their free time in a more peaceful way, there are Museum of Sinjska Alka, one of the most modern museums in Croatia, that provides evidence of a tumultuous history of the town, Museum of the Cetinska Krajina Region, The archaeological collection of the Franciscan Monastery, or few galleries.
Thanks to its exceptional geographical position, numerous natural beauties and other facilities it can offer, Sinj represents a perfect place for a peaceful, as well as for an exciting life.
